This posting is an introduction to Oracle Projects. This is intended for those enthusiastic people, who want to start or join journey in the train Called Projects.....
Oracle Projects suit has following modules in its family. These modules will help manage and report complete Life cycle of a Project.
- Project Costing
- Project Billing
- Project Management
- Project Resource Management
- Project Collaboration
- Project Intelligence (Delivered as part of Daily Business Intelligence)
- Project Portfolio Analysis
Confused, I am sure you are. No issues, lets briefly go through each one of the module.
Project Costing, as the name suggests is a module that can capture the Cost incurred for a Project. Cost could be Labor Cost, Inventory Costs, WIP Cost, Supplier Invoice Cost, PO Accruals, Overhead Cost, Capital Cost or Expenditure, Miscellaneous and Usage costs for a given project.
What is Project Billing module? no prizes for guessing, it helps Generate Revenue and do the Billing for a project. Technical consultants don't scratch your head (for discovering what the difference between Revenue and Billing). In my further postings about the Project Billing Module, ensure that your doubts are cleared. Coming to the point, Project Billing module does help us with Revenue generation, Billing, Agreement and Funding for a Project.
Project Management (my favourite) is embedded functionalities that help better insight in to the project, superior intelligence, better control and smoother execution of the projects. It provides immense ability to Project Mangers to track project life cycle using excellent tools. It also comes with better User Interface and provides lot of scope for customizing.
Project Resource Management has the ability manage Human Resources in an efficient and effective manner. It helps in allocation and unallocating resources. Project managers or Resource Managers can have a first hand information of resources, based on their skill set and availability of these resources.
Project Collaboration, I could not find any specefic documentation for this. My idea about this module is its part of Project Management and owns features such as Document sharing, Collaboration with other teams, providing access to Projects based on the role in the project etc.
Project Intelligence is reporting functionality within Oracle Project Management. Project Status reports and Project Key Performance indicators can be generated, managed and also communicated to all the stake holders.
Project Portfolio Analysis helps manage different logical portfolio of projects. One can analyze profitability, planning of resources and assessment of risks that are involved. Portfolio management tools help Top Management in having better visibility and drill down the details of projects.
